These ProTech® AC capacitors are tested to the highest standards for safe and reliable performance. To test an AC unit capacitor with an analog multimeter tool, first remove the air conditioning capacitor from the circuit board and discharge it fully by connecting it across a resistor. Then, connect the positive terminal of the start run capacitor to the red probe and the negative terminal to the black probe found on the HVAC multimeter. Rotate the multimeter knob to select the capacitance mode. Look at the display panel and note the given capacitance for the capacitor unit; compare it to the value shown to check for a faulty capacitor. Variation between 10%-20% from the actual value is acceptable in most cases but if the displayed value is extremely high or low, you may have a bad capacitor that needs replacing.
